Social Media Funeral - An Original Comic
(For a larger version of our comic, scroll down to the bottom.)

Social Media Funeral is an original 1-page comic story that was inspired by my real life experience of throwing an elaborate meetup for a social network (Digg) that died the next day.

I was the moderator of the /comicbooks community, which made it a bit more sad, but appropriate, for a comic translation. As for the short story, it came about almost by accident...

While shifting between writing two different features, I procrastinated in the form of writing a 1-2-page comic script on a series of post-it notes that eventually got typed into proper format. I wrote it specifically for my collaborator, the exorcist, who was waiting for a much more expansive project from me. I sent him the script pdf, this article, and a folder filled with digg event photos. Despite being half a world away, he managed to illustrate an accurate version of my weird little city during our annual tech conference. And with his own spin, too.

My extremely talented collaborator, ‘the exorcist’ is the pseudonym of Nigerian poet and comics artist Franklin Chukwuemeka. A scholar of fine and applied art at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, his style as both illustrator and colorist are heavily influenced by Gabriel Piccolo (Teen Titans: Raven) and Sean Gordon Murphy (Punk Rock Jesus). In addition to supplying art for “Social Media Funeral,” his work is also featured in creator-owned series Ex Terminator Bloodline.

“I’m thrilled to share my artwork and amazed to be included in such a personal, unique project, which is the most important aspect of it all,” he added.
